December is always such a fun month at school. We fill it with celebratory activities and it is always such a warm and happy month. Check out some of the exciting things we have planned:
Field Trip to the Tree Lot
On Dec. 1 & 2, all classes will walk to our tree lot in the Bi-mart parking lot on Woodstock Blvd. Students will be able to look at the various types of trees, plus get a lesson from Kiley on how to count a trees age and how to take care of your tree. They will also get to pick out a tree trunk bottom and make an ornament for their tree the following week. The students will also be picking out our Homestead Christmas trees!
Homestead “Give Drive”
As part of our “giving” unit, we are working again with Morrison Child and Family Services and their holiday giving campaign. Students and families will be able to choose an ornament off of our “giving tree” on the front desk that has a gift wish from a child. Please bring the gift unwrapped by Dec. 17th.
Can Food Drive
We will be hosting a can food drive beginning Dec. 1st. Each class will be making a graph to count our can food collection. Students will learn about goal making, as they will make a goal for how much food they want to collect. We will be walking the can food to All Saints Episcopal Church on Woodstock Blvd. sometime during the last week before break. Reverend Laura Truby will meet us and talk to us about the importance of giving. Please bring can food to school during the first two weeks of December.
An Evening of Caroling
Please join us for an evening of Christmas caroling on Wednesday, Dec. 17th at 5:30 pm. We will be venturing out to sing some Christmas carols at the school at 5:30 sharp. After caroling, there will be cocoa and cookies at the schoolhouse. The students will be practicing the songs leading up to our caroling.
Woodstock “Winter Wonderland” Celebration and Tree Lighting
We are pleased to announce that the fourth annual Woodstock Tree Lighting will be held at our school. The fire department will be decorating the tree with the kids and handing out candy canes. Kids can also tour a fire truck. More details will be coming, but this will be happening on Saturday, Dec. 15th from 4:00-5:30pm.
“The Night Before Christmas” Party
Our Christmas party at school will be on Thursday Dec. 18 and Friday Dec. 19. Our party will be based around “The Night Before Christmas” theme. Students and teachers are encouraged to wear warm and cozy pajamas to school and bring a favorite stuffed animal. Our day will include making Christmas cookies, reading Christmas stories, singing carols and opening a gift. We will also be watching a 30 minute holiday movie called “The Night Before Christmas” and having popcorn.
