Holiday Traditions Theme

Throughout the month of December we will be learning about various ways people celebrate winter holidays around the world. We will be reading a variety of books about different holiday traditions. We will share some Hanukkah traditions by making potato latkes and playing dreidel games. Part of our playroom will be set up as a traditional living room decorated for the holidays.

“The Night Before Christmas Party”

Our Christmas parties will be on the last day of school for each class, Dec. 19th & Dec. 20th .  Our parties will be based around “The Night Before Christmas” theme. Students and teachers are encouraged to wear warm and cozy pajamas to school and bring a favorite stuffed animal. Our day will include making Christmas cookies, reading Christmas stories, singing carols and opening a gift.  We will also be watching a 30 min. holiday movie called “The Night Before Christmas” and having popcorn.

Woodstock Tree Lighting Celebration

Saturday Dec. 7, Festivities at 5:00 & Tree lighting at 6:00 @ The Homestead Schoolhouse

We are pleased to announce that the 10th  annual Woodstock Tree Lighting will be held at The Homestead. The Homestead teachers will be running the ornament-making table and there will be great vendors from around the neighborhood.  Activities include making ‘smores, touring a fire truck, making ornaments, free food, live music and much more!Invite your friends and family to join us in this fun holiday event!  You don’t want to miss it!

Field Trip to the Tree Lot

On Monday, Dec. 2 and Tuesday, Dec. 3, both classes will walk to our Tree Lot in the Bi-mart parking lot on Woodstock Blvd. Students will be able to look at the various types of trees, plus get a lesson from Kiley on how to count a trees age and how to take care of your tree.  They will also get to pick out a tree trunk bottom and make an ornament for their tree the following week.The students will be choosing our Homestead Christmas trees.

Homestead “Give Drive”

As part of our “giving” unit, we are working with “Building Blocks for Kids” and their holiday giving campaign.   Schoolhouse students will have an opportunity to choose an ornament off of our “giving tree” on the front desk that has a gift wish from a child. This begins on Monday, Dec. 9.

Career Month in January

Career month is coming up in January!  We welcome any parents, other family members, or friends to come in and talk to students about their career!  A sign-up sheet will be on the front desk through all of December for anyone who would like to come in

Snow Days

We will follow the Portland Public School “Snow Day” cancellations.  Please tune into the school cancellations the morning of a snowy/icy day

Registration for 2020-2021 School Year

Registration for the 2020-21 school year will begin Jan. 13.  Registration forms will be available on Monday, Jan. 13 and Tuesday, Jan. 14. Registration is only open to Homestead families at this time.  We will be hosting an open house that is open to the public and registration on Saturday, Jan. 25 @ 2:00pm.
