November Newsletter

Thanksgiving and Family

In November, we will be learning about what Thanksgiving means and why we celebrate the holiday.  We will have discussions around what it means to be “thankful” and things we are thankful for.

We will also spend time focusing on our own families and learning about our classmate’s families.  As part of our dramatic play, we will have a “home” setting in our free play room, along with other new playthings, such as a dollhouse, diverse family  members, Lincoln logs and much more.  Students will be able to make their own Thanksgiving dinner and make their own stone soup in our play kitchen.

Stone Soup Snack

It’s almost time for our annual Stone Soup Luncheon, but this year we will be doing a Stone Soup snack!  As part of a Thanksgiving Celebration, each class will be making Stone Soup.  Students will be asked to bring a vegetable from home to add to our soup!  This is a great way for us to “safely” share our food, talk about healthy eating, and have a Thanksgiving celebration together.

Your child will choose the vegetable they would like to add to the soup and a reminder will be sent home early that week.

Unfortunately, we cannot all be together with family and friends like previous years.  We will be doing our own Stone Soup in our classroom, with just our classmates and teachers.

Our Stone Soup Luncheon will be on Thursday, Nov. 19 and Friday, Nov. 20.

 STONE SOUP DAYS AND TIMES:

Conferences

Conferences will be held on Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24.  Please sign up for conferences at drop-off or pick-up.  Conference times will be limited to 15 minutes per student.

This will be a good chance for parents to talk with teachers one-on-one with any questions and/or concerns.  We will be able to give you information regarding your child’s social, behavioral and academic progress in preschool.   We will be doing in-person conferences.  This year, we ask that you find other arrangements for your child and siblings and not bring them with you to the conferences.

Please wear a mask.  We will be practicing COVID guidelines.  Phone conferences are an option, too.

Conferences are not required.

Turkey Decorating

Every student will be sent home with a turkey to decorate on cardstock paper. It can be decorated any way they choose. Please return soon so we can decorate our school in turkeys! This is a fun, traditional project for the kids!

Family Photo

As part of our November theme, we will be learning about each other’s families.  Your child is asked to bring in a family photo (4x6 or 5x7) and we will display them on our wall.  Please bring photos over the first week.

Christmas Wreath Fundraiser

We will be sending home a Holiday Wreath order form mid-November.  You will have your wreath just in time for the holiday season!    Please pass the order form around to family and friends!

Woodstock Tree Lighting

Unfortunately, this year the community tree lighting event will be cancelled.  We will still celebrate the season by hosting the neighborhood tree!
